Description
Shown is an early Type 4 STANLEY CABINET MAKERS EDGE PLANE. Also called a chisel plane, it was made from 1905 to 1943. Body has 99% original Japanning with a few minor nicks on the rear rails as shown in the pics. The body is smooth as a baby's butt, has one tiny casting flaw pit on right rear rail near knob (pictured), and the front corners have a minute radius on them as many old time cabinet makers like to do to avoid having the plane dig into their work. I hate when that happens. A few minor nicks on the rear rails as shown. The dark Rosewood knob has all its original finish, and nor dings. This plane has the Stanley "V" tm on the iron which makes it a 1910 to 1919 vintage version. Also the first series where Pat. date was removed from the sliding frog, and when inside bulbous shaped buttresses were added to the casting (1" long x 1/4" high on Type 4). It is also first to have the Nickel plated lever cap screw with parallel knurling, and last series to have the "STANLEY" cast adjustment knob. Please take my word for it; it is a Type 4 No.97 Edge Plane. A copy of John Wells' Type Study, "The Stanley No.97 Edge Plane", dated March 2005 will be included. This is a mint collector grade plane that is yours for the taking. Thanks for L@@KING friends...NOTE: If you have read this far, thank you, and please note that I am selling my entire collection.
