Description
A fantastic museum quality, eastern Sioux Calumet with a 30" long ash stem. It has a 14" long section of plaited quill work having designs of crosses and horse tracks. there are ribbon drops at each end of the quilled section and a leather gasket at each end of the quilled section and at the bowl end which is polished from use and darkened from smoke and heat. It's important to note that this Calumet stem has a 3/4" arc from one end to another as Calumets in early historic photographs have, and should have. Later reservation stems are often made from flat, recycled lumber. This arc in the stem is for cradling the pipe in the arm as it is hand held. The catlinite "T" from bowl is 10.25" long x 5" tall with a 2.25" foliate carved square at the stem end. Shows great use inside and at the top opening of the chimney still having tobacco remnants inside. Both the bowl and stem display a fine and consistent patina from age and use. Truly a rare and museum quality Calumet in excellent condition at a low investment price. PSI is $25.00 U.S. Other countries inquire.
