They came from an album whose contents we will be listing - some very early golfing cards to come! Each card was sent to Miss Bell, Hazelwood, Broughty Ferry, Scotland.  They are all in good clean condition. Card 1 shows a photo of Commander Scott and the SS Discovery and was posted in London, very good condition with slight fold to bottom right hand corner. Card 2 shows a map and the deck of the ship, posted in Cape Town on 7 October 1901, marks to the corners where it has been in an album and a fold to bottom left hand corner. Card 3 shows the men hauling across the ice, posted in Christchurch New Zealand on 24 December 1901, slight corner fold to bottom right hand side. Card 4 showing the polar bear and the Union jack flag which was carried by the Discovery and posted on their return to civilisation was posted in Christchurch on 25 April 1904 and considering it spent all that time in the ice is in remarkable shape with just a fluffy bit on the bottom left hand corner. I have lifted the paragraph below from a website specialising in Antarctic Postal History: Under the command of Captain Robert F. Scott, DISCOVERY sailed from London on July 31, 1901. From postcard publishers E. Wrench, of London, four cards were printed for the "Links of the Empire" collection. For a subscription price of two shillings, each card would be posted at a suitable port of call during the expedition and directed to the subscriber's address. Every card would also carry a cancellation of S.S.
