Description
Matchlessantiques is offering collectors and smiths this NEAR MINT 200 lb. Trenton Blacksmith Anvil. If you have been waiting for that perfect anvil, here's one you may really want to consider. The face about as smooth as you'll ever find. There are only some light use marks on the face, most of which are near the heel. The edges are clean with a just a few nicks and a couple chips. Pictures say a thousand words, so please, take a real close look. According to Richard Postman's book, Anvils In America, Trenton anvils were made by The Columbus Forge & Iron Company of Columbus, Ohio. They began production in the U.S. in 1898 and continued forging anvils until 1953. This anvil's trademark is recognizable, but faint. It has the weight mark, "200" and serial number, "A94471", clearly marked on the front foot. Trenton anvils were made of solid wrought iron with a cast steel base. They were faced with a Swedish Tool Steel plate when available. The company advertised their anvils to have a superior shape, perfectly ground faces, straight holes, long pointed horns, long hard faces and tails, tempered edges to prevent chipping and a good clear ring. According to the serial number this anvil was made in 1910. Information credited to Richard Postman's book, Anvils In America. Signed copies of this interesting and informative book are available. Please write if you are interested in purchasing your own copy. This anvil has a nice long ring and an excellent rebound. This anvil would make any blacksmith's day. The anvils measurements are: length 30 1/8", face 4 1/4" X 18 1/8", horn 12", height 12 1/8", hardie hole 1", prichel holes 9/16" & 3/4", base 10 1/8" x 12 1/4", actual weight 198 pounds.
