Description
Thanks for checking out my auction. Sorry, USA only. This is for a cane given to a Colonel by his men after the Civil War. I posted some images and info. on a military collectors website...and was sent a few links. Unfortunately, E-Bay does not allow sellers to post links to other websites...... nor do I want to be accused of plagiarism by extracting info off these sites. To sum it up: This cane was given from the men of the 137th REGT. New York Volunteers to Colonel Koert S. VanVoorhees in 1888. He apparently was "famous." He was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, and Lookout Mountain... and marched with General Sherman to the Sea. Please don't ask me about how much gold is in the inscription. It might be less than an ounce... or... could be several ounces. The value is not in the gold... but the historical significance. I bought this from a living WWII veteran, which came from his wife's side of the family. She passed away three years ago. It was in their family and passed along the generations. I will not release his name. I don't want folks pestering this 91 year old man. The measuring stick in the photos is 18 inches long, not the standard 12. There was a rubber cap placed on the bottom of the cane... and is likely 50 to 60 years old. Please feel free to e-mail me for a link or two on this Colonel. I have yet to find a photo of him. I am not a Civil War buff. I collect WWII. So... be patient with me. Thanks. I accept Pay Pal, money orders, and cashiers checks. Insurance is extra, at cost.
