Item--See Description See more about 'Mid-Century Chrome Leather Dining Chairs by RINALDI' Description Mid-Century Chrome Leather Dining Chairs by RINALDI (Click to Enlarge) Included here is a matching set of four (4) vintage chrome wire dining chairs with their original brown leather upholstery, circa 1960s, attributed to the Italian designer, Gastone Rinaldi (1920-). Overall condition is excellent. There is virtually no visible wear to the upholstery. These chairs are very comfortable, thanks to the flex of the wire frame and the soft, padded leather upholstery which connects to the frame via snaps in the rear. Each measures 31" high, 20" wide and has a seat height of 18" and seat depth of 17.5". These chairs reside on the upper west side of Manhattan ( New York city ) and may be seen by appointment. On 1stdibs.com a Los Angeles dealer currently has a pair of Rinaldi armchairs for $2,400, and a Pasadena dealer has a set of six for $7,200! . Please page down to see additional images. (Additional images gladly forwarded upon request.) Rinaldi was born in Padua in 1920. He designed metal chairs, school desks and other furniture for his father's firm, Rima. H participated in the Milan Triennale in 1951 where he presented chairs made from sheet iron and aluminum with foam-rubber upholstery. Thereafter he met Giò Ponti who encouraged him to continue creating new forms using metal tubing, steel rods and mesh. His " DU 30 " chair won the 1954 Compasso d'Oro. He founded his own firm after leaving his father's business in 1974, and he had designs nominated for the Compasso d'Oro in 1978 and 1981. Rinaldi lives and works in Padua and has worked for Zanotta (www.zanotta.it) since 1994. His most famous design is the Saturno Sofa which is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
