Historic Santa ornaments were produced to look like Santas from old postcards, old chromolithographs, and even old chocolate molds. Five different ornaments were made and each was limited to 30,000. The ornaments were sold in chain stores as well as Penney’s catalog. They were so popular that all were gone by the following January. The five Santas of the first year came to be called the "A" Santas. The following year, Mr. Warning's company became Christmas Reproductions, Inc. The second five Santas, or "B" Santas, were similar to the first five produced earlier but some changes were made to protect the integrity of the earlier production. An explanation of those changes follows. The "A" Santas have become rare and very hard to get and one has reportedly been sold at auction for $1500.00! Differences/Changes between the "A" and "B" Santas: 1850 - the gold apple bucket was moved from the left to the right side of the ornament. 1880 - the gold ash bucket was moved from the left to the right side of the ornament. 1890 - The cat in Santa’s left arm was moved to the right and the clown was removed from the right. A doll was added to the left side. 1920 - Santa’s bag changed sides and was moved from the left to the right and a bear was added to his left arm. 1925 - Santa’s bag items have changed.   For further information, please visit: www.memoriesofsanta.org   There are NO chips, cracks, or dings in any of these Santas!
