Description
JOSIE EARP~KALOMA ~ORIGINAL HAND COLORED ~RISQUE PHOTO For your consideration is an All Original Superb Hand Colored Photo of Josie Earp. Josie Earp was the Wife of Wyatt Earp the Lawman. This image has historically been been associated with Josie Earp, but there are differing views on the historical accuracy of that attribution. Josie is wearing a sheer gown which is beautifully revealing. She has hand tinted skin tone at the reveal of her gown and I can almost see a slight amount on the apple of her cheeks. The bottom of Josie's gown tapers and has green shading. This image is very artistic in the manner of Josie's hair flowing into her gown and the overall composition and Josie is also very clear and not faded. The expression on Josie's face shows modesty but also a confidence in her beauty, and her pose is revealing but not exhibitionist as her hands are clasped at her waist. Beneath Josie is the embossed word Kaloma as well as Copyright 1914 P N Co. embossed at the lower right. Josie's image measures 4 1/2" wide and 11 1/2" high. The frame measures 8" in wide, 15" high, and 1 5/8" deep. The blue and white back label reads :Pictures And Art Goods Framing~The Kodak And Art Shop~ Ottawa Ont. Opposite The Chateau Laurier. The label is missing a small bit at the bottom. The backing paper has nice oxidation and has some holes and tears, and is slightly tattered and coming away at the top left. There is some clear tape on the paper on the bottom and the lower left side as pictured. The frame has some minor scratches and the hanging wire and eye hook are replacements. Some of the photos show a shadow which is a reflection of by bald head....I call it like it is...If you have any qestions please ask. There are two 1/16" tears 1/4" apart at the top left of the image mostly beneath the frame that I have pictured for accuracy. These are revealed only on very close inspection and I do not find them objectionable. Also there is some sort of putty fill a little larger than 1/16" in the background at approximately 10 o'clock about an inch away from Josie's head on the left as pictured. Honestly this is the first time I have noticed the putty or the tears in the 7 years that I have owned this image and I don't feel they are of great consequence. Aside from being stunning, this photo was quite risque for the time. This original image (I think it is on Platinum Paper) and framing is in Very Fine Antique condition. The original ogee mahogany or mahogany finish frame has its original rippled glass and original back paper and framers' label.
