The combination of the 2 large signs at the front entrance on Michigan Avenue was one of the most awesome displays I have ever seen.  I have been told that this signage has even been featured in a couple of the Chevrolet commercial advertisements in the past.   I purchased all of the signs in 2004 from City Chevrolet.  I spent a small fortune hiring White Way Sign Company to obtain permits and remove the signs.  White Way was actually the company that made these old signs years ago, and had been servicing them throughout the years.  Their name is fired into the porcelain on these signs.   In this auction, I am offering the tall VERTICAL SIGN ONLY at the front entrance (see other auctions for 2 other signs from the building).  It is a 2-sided porcelain neon sign, and actually has a 3rd side in porcelain neon on the street-end of the sign that spells out Chevrolet.  Each bowtie is in neon, and I was told these “chased”, or animated, but do not know for certain.  The Chevrolet letters are double-stroked neon.   The porcelain does show some age.  The blue has some uniform fade to it, but this thing is so big that you do not really focus on that like you would a smaller sign.  There are a couple of rust holes in the porcelain that you may or may not want to repair.  Some of the panels are a little loose, and there is a dent or two in one or two of the panels.  There is rust in the cabinet in places that would need to be fixed.  The bottom section of the sign appears to be an “add-on”, as it is painted-tin and says City Auto Sales.  Under this section is a painted tin arrow that pointed to the showroom entrance door.  I am assuming the light bulbs “chased”.   The top portion sign measures just under 34’ tall x 8’4” wide x 24” thick.  The pained tin “City Auto Sales” section adds another 3’ in height.  My plans were to leave the dealer name and arrow portions off, and sit the bottom of the main sign on a floor to display.    The sign is being sold as is, in unrestored condition.  Because of size, this is a pickup only item on the east side of Indianapolis.  I will assist with loading any way I can.  No Paypal please.  If you have any questions you can contact me at 317-698-8300.  Do not miss your change to own a one-of-a-kind sign and a piece of Chevrolet and Chicago history.   Place a Bid!
