It has been made from smoke finished native tanned buckskin and beaded in a floral design. It is sinew sewn and beaded. The beading on the edges is very solid. Under a loupe one can see the fibers and different thicknesses of sinew strands used for sewing and beading. THIS IS THE REAL THING - NO REPRODUCTION! Sizes: Overall 22 by 7 inches including fringes and flaps. Bead panels front and back is 6 by 5 inches each. It was picked up after the battle of Batoche in Manitoba Canada in 1885, which involved Louis Riel - a famous Metis leader. It was then inherited by a Blackfoot family that later in 1994 sold to a Mr. Ray McKeaum who then sold it on to a Antique dealer in Santa Fe, NM. I purchased this bag from the Santa Fe dealer in 1999. There are several notes with it. The condition is excellent, no damage to beadwork and only very light stains on leather.
