Description
COLLECTOR'S ITEM-This beautiful clock was created by Frank Chase, a well-known and sought-after artist/craftsman who lives on the Big Island of Hawaii. Frank's work reflects a life-time of knowledge, passion and dedication to the creation of precision furniture, clocks and barometers in wood. His extraordinary talent was first recognized when he created a working model of a Porsche engine entirely of wood. Since then, his furniture and precision wood creations have graced the homes and offices of many of America's elite who are including Frank's work in collections in Hawaii and the mainland, as well as by collectors world-wide.This clock is made of Walnut, Hawaii's indigenous Koa, Ebony and Poplar, with gleaming brass accents. Frank chose the hard-wood Walnut to create the moving gears and the body of the pendulum, Koa for the rotating clock face, Ebony for accents and Poplar for the weight. Brass is used for the pendulum, chain and additional accents. The clock is suspended on a wall-mount made of Walnut. The clock is wound by pulling the weight to its highest position, which activates the gears and the pendulum. The circular ring of Koa rotates and the small ring at the top of the wheel indicates the time with brass roman numerals and dots as they pass through the ring. While this clock is a precision instrument, you should expect it to be accurate within only a few minutes as it is an organic creation and throughout it's life, it will react to it's environment.Frank Chase crafted this clock on the Big Island of Hawaii and took several months to build. It is a painstaking process and requires the curing of the wood as parts are made, observation and adjustments throughout the process. The price reflects and respects the skill and time it required. It will operate best in an environment of higher relative humidity throughout the year. Please thoughtfully consider the climate in which your clock will be living. Due to the nature of wood, changes in temperature and moisture will cause some swelling or contracting of the wood. Minor adjustments to the clock can be made and Frank is available to help with adjustments throughout the life of this beautiful and unique piece of functional art. Those of you who have enjoyed having a clock with movement in the past will remember the feeling of having a timepiece like this in your home or office--the soft tick-tock that marks the passage of time and the sense of presence it brings to your world. I have so enjoyed the "personality" of this clock as it has hung in my art gallery. This piece of working art needs care, maintenance and attention to function well. If you are inclined to want to hang it and forget it, please don't consider this. Please dialogue with me before you purchase as this clock is not for everyone.Additional pictures and information are available. Please send inquires to the email address listed. Shipping charges for the clock will vary and the weight will be approx. 20-30 lbs., depending on where it is going. It is not heavy and will be packed in four parts with easy assembly instructions. Sales tax will be applied to appropriate location. Insurance is required and will be included in shipping quote--or you arrange for your own with my approval. I will not guarantee the function if the above requirements of the organic nature of the wood are not respected. That said, it's a beautiful piece and we will work with you--we don't want to scare you away!!
