Description: Legendary First Issue. Origin from Detective #33 reprinted. First appearance of the Joker (two stories intended for two separate issues of Detective which would have been the first and second appearance). Splash page to the second Joker story is similar to the cover of Detective #40 (story was intended for Detective #40). First appearance of the Cat (Catwoman), who is the first villainess in comics! Has a Batman story without Robin originally planned for Detective #38; mentions location in Manhattan where Batman lives. This book was created entirely from the Detective Comics inventory. First Batman and Robin pin-up on the back cover. ----------------------------------------------------- This is a low grade bargain copy. If you want a copy of this historic comic book and do not want to have to get a second mortgage to own one, this is for you. Various Price Guide advisers and dealers have checked this book and the consensus is that the book is in Fair condition with the following defects: Spine appears to have been taped with the old style brown tape, which has been removed. Old magazine exchange stamps on cover. It appears that this copy was once sold as a back issue for 2 1/2 cents!! The image of Batman on the front cover has been traced in pencil. Extra staples, which have a little rust that bleeds on to pages. Appears to be some glue inside spine. The image of Robin on the back cover pin up has been traced in pencil. Inside front and back cover have brown paper glued to them. Someone thought they were doing something to preserve this comic book. On the back cover the paper wraps around the left side border as can be seen in the scan. Interior pages are off-white and super supple. The colors on the front cover are still strong and vivid. You cannot go wrong at this price.
