Description
Vintage Dave Sweet 1964-65 9’ 8” Surfboard #4425Denny Waller, who handled every Dave Sweet surfboard during the mid 60’s, believes this board (#4425) was made between 1964-65. Dave Sweet was a pioneer in the construction of foam surfboards. His system created an extremely hard shell that was more ding resistant than anything else available at the time. I got this board in 1984 from my mother who discovered it in a garage in San Bernardino. The board had a large orange amateur pigment patch on the nose that hid some serious damage. Owning a fiberglass repair business at the time I sanded it down to assess the damage. I wanted to fix the board while still maintaining it’s integrity, that is, repair but not hide it’s history. I replaced the two damaged sections of the nose with Clark Foam blank nose scraps. The gash/fracture in the bottom was glassed over, and the entire board was then glossed and polished. It is 100% sealed, restored, original, collectible and ‘surf ready’.
